PCs Justin Brown and Andrew Lang are serving police officers based at Langho and Whalley respectively. They have set up a local scheme taking groups of teenagers upto Gisburn Forrest in Tosside mountain biking for the day. These trips are free and run on Sundays and the two officers spend around 3-4 hours in the Forrest on a variety of trails teaching the kids the skills needed. They also give inputs into health, and behaviour. It is intended to give those participants a great day out, away from the telly, but also to break down those barriers between them and the Police to promote better neighbourhoods. So far the two officers have taken over 80 such kids out with all but 2 having a great time and wanting to go again. Blackburn Lions wanted to help and so we sponsored some colourful protective clothing to help make the project work. The jackets are given to the kids at the beginning of the course and are waterproof and warm and do the job. Blackburn Lions are proud to be associated with this very worthwhile youth activity and want to thank PCs Brown and Lang for their devotion beyond the call of duty.
